The Student Bar Association is here for YOU! Even over the summer we are hard at work preparing for the fall semester. Here are some highlights from our work over Summer 2017.<\/h3>\n

\u00a0Vice President Frank Florio<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/h4>\n

“This summer<\/span>, I oversaw the<\/span> various committees of the SBA<\/span>. The SBA<\/span>Committees are extremely important to the<\/span> Senate. Each new idea or concern from the<\/span> student body can be sent to an SBA<\/span> Committee to work on. The<\/span> Committee members can then take the<\/span> idea or concern and craft a strategy to address it. Additionally, SBA<\/span> Committees are used to construct bills, oversee redrafting of the<\/span> Constitution and Bylaws ofthe<\/span> Senate, and create new initiatives. <\/span><\/p>\n

\n

As your Vice President I encourage all of your to reach out to your SBA<\/span>representatives this year whenever you have an idea or concern at the<\/span>law school. We have exceptional senators that work very hard to makethe<\/span> law school a better place and a great President leading the<\/span> way.<\/p>\n

Lastly, feel free to contact me at any time regarding anything at all. I look forward to serving the SBA<\/span>, all of you, and UM Law School this year. Good luck with<\/span> the<\/span> upcoming semester. I wish all of you the<\/span> best.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Secretary\u00a0Jenna\u00a0Florio<\/a><\/h4>\n

“Over the<\/span> summer<\/span> I have been working with<\/span> student leaders in order to help plan their future events for the<\/span> year. We are working to have the<\/span>best quality events for this upcoming year. I have been planning the\u00a0<\/span>student organization fair. Looking forward to seeing everyone back at school.”<\/p>\n

Historian\u00a0Sara Ptachik<\/a><\/h4>\n

“This summer<\/span> I\u2019m focusing on increasing awareness and participation across our social media platforms. Developing a constant and cohesive internet presence is important for advancing the<\/span> SBA<\/span>\u2019s mission. An online community not only aids communication between the<\/span> SBA<\/span>, students, faculty and staff but also helps foster community.”<\/p>\n

2L Senator\u00a0Ricardo Pita<\/a><\/h4>\n

“I\u2019ve devoted this summer<\/span> to getting the<\/span> SBA<\/span> back in fighting shape. One of my main duties at the<\/span> helm of the<\/span> Rules Committee is to ensure periodic and thorough revisions of our founding documents and procedures, which at the<\/span> moment stand horribly outdated and ignored.With<\/span> the<\/span> support of the<\/span> Executive branch and fellow Senators, we have identified several areas that, if addressed, could drastically improve the<\/span>SBA<\/span>\u2019s responsiveness to student needs and initiatives.\u201d<\/p>\n

2L Senator\u00a0Dave Pringle<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/h4>\n

“Over the<\/span> summer<\/span> I’ve been working on creating new ways to foster the<\/span>public interest and pro-bono ethic at Miami Law. I’m looking forward to launching some new initiatives including but not limited to free legal advice clinics where students can sit 2nd chair to experienced practicing attorneys in a variety of fields, a seminar on public interest loan forgiveness programs, and many more career development and service opportunities like additional skills building workshops and talks on public interest fellowships post-graduation. I can’t wait to get some of these ideas up and running and I would appreciate any thoughts from you all so feel free to reach out to me with<\/span> any ideas.

2L Senator\u00a0Jessica Shevlin<\/a><\/h4>\n

“Over the<\/span> summer<\/span>, I have been working on planning the<\/span> 1L New Student Social at the<\/span> Ratskellar scheduled for August 11th. Additionally, I have been setting potential dates for the<\/span> infamous Socials at the<\/span> Rat forthe<\/span> fall semester. I am looking into plans for more social opportunities and planning events throughout the<\/span> fall semester. 2L Senator\u00a0Joseph Cottingham<\/a><\/h4>\n

“This summer<\/span> your SBA<\/span> has worked diligently to prepare for a productive and entertaining school year. I’ve devoted this summer<\/span> to working with<\/span> the<\/span> SBA<\/span> to realize the<\/span>most efficient uses of the<\/span> student budget. As the<\/span> Chairman of the<\/span>Budget & Finance Committee I want to see that the<\/span> students are receiving the<\/span> most benefit from the<\/span> expenditures of the<\/span> student fundswith<\/span> each and every event the<\/span> SBA<\/span> puts on. I am excited to get back to school and work with<\/span> you all to make this school year a success!”<\/p>\n
