Have you enjoyed free snacks & beer at one of the popular SBA Socials at The Rat? Did you meet your study group or claim a table at your new favorite spot at the Bar Crawl in August? Are you looking forward to relieving some mid-semester stress at the Halloween party this FRIDAY? Meet the Senator behind these initiates and the head of the Social Committee who says “law school is all about balance,” 2L Senator Jessica Shevlin.
What did you study before coming to law school?
I studied Political Science on the Pre-Law track at UCF! GO KNIGHTS!
Why did you decide to come to UM Law?
As a child, I attended countless Hurricane games at the Orange Bowl and I always knew that I was destined to be a ‘Cane! When I got my acceptance letter to UM I was completely overjoyed and could not WAIT to start!
Did you always know you wanted to come to law school?
Yes! It has been a dream of mine to go to law school since I was in the fifth grade. I ran for class president that year, and after my speech, the school principal told me that I will make a great lawyer when I grew up!
How do you contribute to the SBA as the Social Committee Chair?
I organize any social events that we put on for the law school. This includes any Socials at the Rathskeller, Bar Crawls and special events!
What is your message to law students who feel like they don’y have time to attend social events?
Law school is all about balance. As a student, you absolutely have to plan and give yourself ample time to study, read, write, etc. However, there is only so much your brain can handle! Sometimes, its better to step away from your books and let your mind process all the information you give it. The best way to do that is to take a break and socialize with friends! Give yourself some time to relax and have fun!
What can students look forward to this year?
I’m extremely excited for our halloween party next Friday! Students should take the opportunity to come celebrate halloween with fellow students not only at UM Law, but FIU, St. Thomas & Nova Law!
What are you passionate about outside of law school?
I love cooking and exercising! I also am extremely close with my family, so i’m happy to have them close by.
Anything else you’d like to add?
Go ‘Canes! 🙂
